The exact time for the firing will be announced once we have a clearer picture of the weather forecast, which should be about 4-5 days before the event.

What Is a Pit Firing?

Pit firing is a traditional pottery-making method in which clay pots are placed in a pit and fired using wood and other organic materials.

Important Details for Members

  • Ensure that your work is ready for the firing day!

  • We recommend using grog-heavy clay with slightly thicker walls that have already been bisque fired.

  • If you plan to submit unfired greenware, please make sure your pieces are completely **BONE DRY**.

Items to Collect for the Firing

Here’s a list of materials to gather for the firing:

  • Salt

  • Sugar

  • Baking soda

  • Eggshells

  • Onion skins

  • Banana peels

  • Coffee grounds

  • Grasses

  • Feathers

  • Sawdust

  • Copper wire

  • Steel wool

  • Aluminum foil
